En liten informativ video om kylfiltrering/ A small informative video about chill-filtering

Kylfiltrering är ett gissel för oss maltwhiskyälskare. Min whiskyvän Conny Magnusson uppmärksammade mej på denna video och jag tänkte att denna skulle passa bra här i väntan på nästa recension.

Chill-filtering are the scourge of us malt whisky lovers. My Whisky friend Mr. Conny Magnusson noted me on this video and I thought this would fit well here in anticipation of the next review.

En liten paus på testandet.

Nu kommer det bli en liten paus på testandet av whisky eftersom jag kommer att åka till Göteborgs Porterfestival i helgen och kommer ha en hel massa porterrecensioner att ta tag i. Om ni är intresserade kan ni läsa dessa recensioner på facebooksidan "Vi som älskar porter" där jag kommer att recensera dessa under de närmsta veckorna. Dessa kommer dock bara att finnas tillgängliga på svenska. Jag ska försöka vara tillbaka så snart som möjligt och då blir det en Bourbon som kommer att testas.

Now there will be a small break in the testing of Whisky because I will be going to Gothenburg Porter Festival this weekend and will have a whole bunch of porter reviews to tackle . If you are interested you can read these reviews on the Facebook page "Vi som älskar porter" where I will review these in the next few weeks. These will only be available in Swedish. I'll try to be back as soon as possible and then there will be a Bourbon that will be tested.

Recensionen kommer här då:

Doft: Mandel, körsbärsblom, vanilj, lätt ek, lite honung, plommon och lätt russin,
Med vatten: mer bittermandel, russin, vanilj, mindre av det mesta i övrigt,

Smak: Mandel, sherry, vanilj, päron, lätt krydda,
Med vatten: Ek, lätt Russin, mer krydda, mindre av övrigt, sågspån smak precis när man sväljer ner,

Eftersmak: kraftig krydda, ek spån, söta körsbär i konjak, ganska lång eftersmak som är något oljig mot slutet
Med vatten: strävare och mindre krydda men kryddigheten håller i sig längre, mindre av övrigt och kortare eftersmak

Kommentar: Strunta i vattnet på denna. Riktigt bra utan vatten. Medioker med vatten. Bästa japanen jag smakat, jag har dock inte smakat så många.

Betyg: 90 utan vatten 85 med vatten

Nose: Almond, cherry blossom, vanilla, light oak, a little honey, plum and light raisin,
With water: more bitter almonds, raisins, vanilla, less of most things in general,

Palate: almond, sherry, vanilla, pear, light spice,
With water: Oak, light raisins, more spice, less of the other, sawdust tastes just when you swallow down;

Finish: strong spice, oak chips, sweet cherries in brandy, very long finish that is slightly oily towards the end
With water: more harsh and less spice but spicy unit last longer, less of the rest and shorter finish

Comment: Forget water in this. Really good without water. Mediocre with water. Best Japanese whisky I have tasted, But I have not tasted that many.

Score: 90 without water 85 with water

Doft: frisk doft av Ljunghonung, violblom, malt,


Smak: söt, frisk, lätt citrus, honung, lätt kryddig, nötaktig,


Eftersmak: En fatkaraktär förstärks allt eftersom, kryddig eftersmak. eftersmaken är dock är ganska kort


Kommentar: Låt gärna stå en liten stund efter du slagit i vatten för att whiskyn ska hinna öppna sig. Var ganska försiktig med vattnet då den lätt drunknar. Behöver bara någon/några droppar vatten.

Here is a brief review:

Nose: fresh scent of heather, violet flower, malt,

Palate: sweet, crisp, light citrus, honey, spicy, nutty,

Finish: A character of barrel that amplified gradually , spicy finish. the finish is quite short

 Comment: If you leave stand a little while after you poured in water the the whisky will have time to open. Be very careful with the water as it easily drown. Just need someone / a few drops of water.

Cragganmore 12 years old

 Cragganmore grundades 1869 vid byn Ballindalloch där floden Avon och Spey möts. Destilleriet byggdes av sten från höjden Craggan Mor. Cragganmores närhet till järnvägen gjorde att de var blev de första att frakta sin whisky med hjälp av den.

Destilleriet höll som så många andra stängt i mitten på 40-talet. 1964 utökade man kapaciteten på anläggningen och utökade antalet kopparpannor från två till fyra stycken. Året efter övertogs Cragganmore av Distillery Company Ltd, som nu heter Diageo. Sedan 1989 ingår Cragganmore i den klassiska serien Six Classic Malts.

 

Cragganmore tar sitt vatten från två källor, Garlane och Coris även kallade "The Corries". De får sitt lättrökta korn från någon av Diageos centrala mältningsanläggningar. Mäskningen sköter man med ett nytt modernt rostfritt mäskkar, tillverkat 1997. Destilleriet har sex jäskkar som samtliga är tillverkade i europeiskt lärkträ. De har fyra kopparpannor, även de relativt nya, tillverkade i mitten av 60-talet. Mäskpannorna är av lanternmodell och spritpannorna av boiling ball modell. En ovanlig detalj är att pannhuvudena är platta upptill, om det är för att passa mot taket eller förbättra destilleringen är osagt. Whiskyn lagras nästan uteslutande i begagnade bourbonfat. Destilleriet har tre lagerhus på området. Efter lagringen sker buteljeringen i Leven, Fife.

Doft: Honung, lakrits, fruktig
Med vatten: samma som ovan män lättare och mindre distinkt

Smak: Spritig, söt, lätt fruktig, med inslag av lakritstoner, citrus
Med vatten: mer fruktig,

Eftersmak: Kort och lite kryddig med en väldigt lätt rökighet,
Med vatten: Mer kryddig och mer citrus, lite mer distinkt rökighet och betydligt längre eftersmak

Kommentar: En sådär whisky som inte kommer till några höjder. Ganska intetsägande för att vara malt men drickbar.

Cragganmore was founded in 1869 in the village of Ballindalloch where the River Avon and Spey meet. The distillery was built of stone from the hill Craggan Mor. Cragganmore proximity to the railroad meant that they were became the first to transport their whisky through it.

The distillery was, like so many others, closed in the mid 40's. 1964 they expanded the capacity of the plant and extended the number of copper pans from two to four. The following year it was taken over by Distillery Company Ltd., which is now calledDiageo. Since 1989 Cragganmore is included in the classic series Six Classic Malts.

Cragganmore takes its water from two sources, Garlane and Coris also called "The Corries". They get their light smoked barleyfrom one of Diageo's central malting plants. Mashing, is operated with a new modern stainless mash tun, made 1997. The distillery has six vats which are all manufactured in European larch tree. They have four copper stills, even those relatively new, constructed in the mid 60's. Wash stills are lantern model and liquor stills of boiling ball model. An unusual detail is that the boiler heads are flat on top, if it is to fit against the ceiling or improve distillation is unsaid. The whisky is stored almost exclusively in used bourbon casks.The distillery has three warehouses in the area. After storage bottling takes place in Leven, Fife.

Now to the review:

Nose: honey, licorice, fruity

With water: same as above but lighter and less distinct


Palate: spirituous, sweet, slightly fruity, with hints of licorice tones, citrus

With water: more fruity,


Finish: Short and slightly spicy with a very light smokiness,

With water: more spicy and more citrus, a little more distinctive smokiness and much longer finish


Comment: An average Whisky that does not come to any heights. Pretty bland to be malt but drinkable,
